I have to be honest: all my life I relate Vila do Conde to the beach. However, when I visited this city in the suburbs of Porto, I noticed Vila do Conde is much more connected to the river than to the ocean.
When I rambled around the Old Town the Ave river was constantly present, as part of the city. Also, there are several beautiful parks, where people can go and enjoy its company.
I remember to walk around Vila do Conde and realize: ‘This is why the local football team is called Rio Ave’! I know it sounds stupid, but it makes a lot of sense…
Anyway, donΒ΄t worry, the beach is not far, maybe 20 minutes, walking distance in a pleasant walk!
